Leith hasn’t always been the desirable place it is now, with the memory of high unemployment and rundown buildings fading fast following nearly 3 decades of regeneration. Today the Leith waterfront is stunning with a thriving community of small businesses making it one of the best places to live in Britain, accordingly to the Sunday Times.
An attraction for me however, is the array of bar’s serving locally sourced beers and Breweries, all in close proximity, creating what is now being called the ‘Leigh Beer Mile’.
Moonwake Beer Co
Established in 2021, their head brewer believes there is a beer out there for everyone and their mission statement is to create balanced beers for a wide range of people to enjoy. A vibrant, colourful taproom with views overlooking the shiny brew kit, guarantees you can’t drink their beer any fresher.
Campervan Brewery
Following the opening a taproom in August 2017 they increased their brewing capacity from 50HL to 120HL in 2019. With 10 beers on tap, expect the brewery’s classics alongside the finest of Scotland and the UK’s craft beers, as well as a selection of wine, local spirits and soft drinks.
Newbarns Brewery
Traditional pub games await you, if you decide to visit their Taproom. Whitewashed bricked interior lends itself to a more traditional Belgian drinking establishment, however its complimented with their strong range of beers. Expect craft lagers, pale ales, stouts and with Donzoko Brewery sharing the same premises, there is always a chance to grab some of their beers too.
